Sports races in 2022: Seattle Marathon, and Spartan obsticle races

2022 was the year that I really pushed my body to the next level. It was the first time I ran a Spartan 5K 20 obstacle race in Snohomish in August 2022. It was quite an experience. I was able to complete the race with just some general body ache without any major injury or accident. The mud pit and dunk wall was refreshing except getting mud into my eye at the slip wall. It was to my surprise that monkey bar was difficult for me. Rope climb and multi-rig were also challenging. Those are the ones that I cannot complete.

After Snohomish race, I also signed up the races (5K, 10k and 21K) in Arizona.  The 21K Beast with 30 obstacles was in the morning on Saturday. My body was hurting after the Beast but I was still mobile. On Sunday prior to the 10K I felt much better than the night prior. The 10 K was in the morning on Sunday and 5 K was in the afternoon. After I complete the weekend warier Trifecta I was really beat up! I can only moving slowly and doing lots of icing and taking some supplements to help me recover. We flew home the next day and I started seeing patients on Tuesday! It was definitely not easy but my body recovered!

During the Thanksgiving weekend, I ran the Seattle Marathon 26.2 miles! I had runner's knee at mile 12. My left knee pretty much locked up. I can only fast walk or light jog with minimal knee flexion. I was able to finish the race. It was definitely a great physical and mental challenge. That was quite an experience.

In retrospect I definitely need to do more regular training to get ready for the distance running and obstacle races. Regular chiropractic adjustment and nutrition supplement is a must pre and post races. I have not sign up any race yet but hopefully I will do that again soon. In the mean time I am doing regular running and lifting weights to keep my body in good shape. #activespines #spartan #seattlemarathon

DynaRom MyoVision at Active Spines Chiropractic

As an attorney, what do you do when you have a client that you know has lasting damage and pain, but has received a negative IME or their pain doesn’t show even with advanced imaging?
Normal range of motion assessments only show how far the muscles are able to extend and often appear normal, even though a patient is still experiencing pain. When traditional measures fail you, bringing a client in for a DynaRom assessment can definitively document muscle guarding as the result of soft tissue injury.
How? MyoVision’s DynaRom combines attached-electrode dynamic surface electromyography (or dynamic sEMG) with range of motion assessments, simultaneously measuring active range of motion with corresponding muscle activity. It then expresses this activity together in graph format to easily see whether a patient is suffering from soft tissue damage. Surface electromyography is a proven EKG technology.
When fighting for continued care for your client or settling a case, having the results of a DynaRom assessment can be a powerful tool. Lack of objective evidence often brings a low verdict for personal injury cases. The DynaRom tool is backed by over 9,000 published research studies and an impeccable record of court victories. In the words of plaintiff attorney Mike Maxwell, “Plaintiff cases often end up resting on patient testimony […], which is a weak, weak case.” However, he went on to say, “When a plaintiff attorney brings in Dynarom, its objective findings cannot be denied.”
Simply put, muscle guarding proves pain. DynaRom objectively reports muscle guarding. Patients and attorneys alike are relieved to see the damage simply and scientifically presented. In the words of American Medical Association author Dr. John J. Gerhardt, MD, “Its integrated use of sEMG and true wireless dual range of motion is brilliant. Surface EMG effectively augments ROM by assessing effort.”
Creator David Marcarian explains exactly how the tool works (and works for your cases) in this short

Dr. Shao-Hao Cheng, D.C., is certified through MyoVision to assess soft tissue injury. After he performs the scans, he will evaluate them and create a report of findings to aid your case.

Chiropractic Care for Car Accident Injuries Part II | Bellevue WA Chiropractor

Evaluating Whiplash-Associated Injury and Prognosis in Automobile Collisions at Active Spines Chiropractic

When you are involved in a car accident, it is very important that you follow up with your chiropractor or medical doctor for a detail check up at a timely manner. You might feel neck pain, back pain, headache, body soreness, tightness, fatigue, sleeplessness, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, changes in your daily routine, or more. You might only experience some of these symptoms or just minor changes but a thorough evaluation of your body and review the mechanism of injury will help you return to normal daily activities as soon as possible and prevent future chronic problems. [1]

Often time it is the minor problems that cause chronic issues later in life or cause more problems when you are in a second accident. Patient prognosis post motor vehicle accident (MVA) is related to age, number of days to reporting the collision, neck pain intensity, low back pain intensity, pain other than neck and back pain, headache before collision and recovery expectations. [5] Detail history taking regarding the speed of impact, types of car involved, direction of impact, driver's hand, arm, leg, body and head position, aware or unaware of impact, seat belt fastened or not, road condition, weather and more are needed to determine the mechanism of injury due to motor vehicle accident.

Motor vehicle accidents (MVA) may result in intractable disability. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be as a potential cause. [2] Some patients experience afraid of driving on the road and gets nervous pretty easily. It is important to follow up with a medical doctor or a psychotherapist to evaluate and treat this condition. Cognitive-behavioural intervention and antidepressants may improve coping, ease fear, and reduce the impact of pain. [2] Patient should keep a detail record of their daily activities after the accident such as their sleep pattern, work, hobby, taking care of their child, and driving [3], [4]. Keeping good records of your improvement in daily activity level is a good way to monitor your progress.

At Active Spines Chiropractic we offer Chiropractic care, massage therapy and exercise rehabilitation therapy for our patients. We also are up to date and thorough in our record keeping and documentation. With personal, detail and evidence based treatment plan we are here to assist you getting back to your healthy life.
