Therapeutic Wobble Chair | Bellevue WA Chiropractor

What is the Wobble Chair? How does it work?

Recently I have been feeling right hip discomfort from time to time. I am not sure what trigger the problem. Since I was not in a car accident or other injuries, it is most likely from my workout or my posture. It feels like my right hip is out of alignment. I feel muscle tension around my hip muscles, around hip joint and IT band. They are a bit tight and sore comparing to my left hip. I have been doing some hip joint, gluteal muscles, piriformis muscle and IT band muscle stretching, but the muscle tension is still there and quite bothersome. I got my low back and hip adjusted of course with good relief. I also use the traction table in the clinic. But it really bothers me sometimes still. So what's next?

I try the wobble chair! I use that for 10 minutes. I sit on it and move my hip/pelvis back and forth, sideways, right/left diagonally, clockwise/counter clockwise each for 10 repetition and repeat till 10 minutes is up. During the exercise I feel the sore spot being work on and stretch out. Afterwards my right hip feels a bit loosen up and the soreness is less. Wobble chair exercise really help my hip.

According to the Pettibon system, a daily home regimen of 5-8 minutes full range of motion exercises are absolutely essential for daily metabolic interchange, nutrition intake and elimination of waste products in order to maintain healthy well-hydrated spinal discs, ligaments and tendons. (The Aging Lumbar Spine, Bernini P.M.D. et al. Saunders, 1982)

Lastly, in the office we use the wobble chair as an pretreatment exercise to warm up the spine. The motion can increase lumbar disc mobility, disc hydration, nutrition delivery and waste elimination. Your back will adjust better and stay in alignment longer when it's warm up. Please let us know if your back is bothering you. We can help!

Why Am I Here | Bellevue WA Chiropractor

Why Am I Here? What Make You Decide to Be a Chiropractor?

Since I grew up in Taiwan, Chiropractic is not popular back home. I did not decide to be a chiropractor when I was young or I had seen a chiropractor prior due to sports injuries, car accident injuries, neck pain or back pain. As a matter of fact I have never heard of the word "chiropractic" until when I was a junior or senior in college through my dad. My dad goes to Japan from time to time for work or visiting friends. One time he was seen by a chiropractor there due to his chronic low back pain. Later he told me about his experience and wanted me to find out more about it.

I had no clue what chiropractic is and was very skeptical about how it can help back pain by adjusting the spine. At that time I was studying Athletic Training and helping athletes with various sports injuries through rehabilitation exercises and therapeutic modalities. With all the classes I had taken, none of them mentioned chiropractic care as a treatment option. But I decided to find out more by contacting schools in the USA and visited local chiropractors in Taiwan. I received  admission and curriculum information from chiropractic schools. After reviewing all the information that really got me excited because the classes looked quite challenging and interesting comparing to going to graduate school doing research. I had been studying for GRE in Taiwan, took a couple tests and had good scores for admission to graduate school at that time. But I prefer hands on, clinical approach, and more patient interaction. After long discussions with my parents and teachers I decided to go to chiropractic school at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard IL, instead of graduate school in sports medicine and the rest is history!

Seeing is believing? | Bellevue Chiropractor

Back pain? chiropractic might be able to help!

Seeing is believing?

The other day I fell to the ground and scraped my left elbow and left knee while rollerblading around where I live. I also landed on my right hip and right hand. I immediately saw some blood over my left knee and elbow. It was not a good experience. I then went home and cleaned up the injury site. Later on the day my wrists, hips, and arms started to hurt. Even though there were not open wounds and bruises around those area, I knew something was not right. There are certainly sprain/strain, and soft tissue injuries over my body due to the fall. I started icing my shoulder, neck, upper back, arm, and hip at 15 minutes increment for 2 to 3 hours. I felt better the next day. But my body still not feeling good, especially when I am working on patients, my wrist and ankle still bothers me.

What is going on? I am not seeing the injury but still hurting! There is some soft tissue injury still over my body for sure. I then got a chiropractic adjustment from my colleague. Later on I slowly feeling better. But I am not completely heal yet, even though I am back to the gym working out. I still need to follow up for some chiropractic treatments. It is quite common for people to think that when you do not see the injury and you are fine. But as far as soft tissue injuries, or musculoskeletal injuries are concerned, it is not true. Not seeing the injury does not mean you are okay. It is better to live your life at it fullest than just getting by without pain. It is better to stay active than relying on medication to keep you pain free. It is imperative to see a chiropractor for musculoskeletal injuries whenever after car accident, sports injury, work injury, or any other kind of injury to make sure you are 100% okay, not just no pain. Don't wait until it is too late.
